Sculptra® Aesthetic

Long-lasting Wrinkle Reduction in Tampa

Wrinkles can appear for so many reasons: smiling, laughing, squinting, natural aging, and even your sleeping position. Just because wrinkles seem unavoidable doesn’t mean you can’t continue to put your best face forward no matter your age.

You may have looked into options for getting rid of wrinkles, but want something that will last longer and without the “overnight” effect of other fillers— Sculptra® Aesthetic is exactly that.

Tampa board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stan Castor and his team at Artisan Aesthetics Plastic Surgery and Laser Center are here to help men and women achieve a naturally more youthful appearance with the Sculptra® Aesthetic facial filler to fight those lines at the root of the problem. Sculptra® is a non-surgical facial filler that is different from the others because it goes deep within the skin and reignites your body’s production of collagen. The results are seen gradually through a series of injections and can last for longer than two years.

The Benefits of Sculptra®

Sculptra® gives you natural looking results because it’s your body that is doing the filling of hollow areas and lines and creases. It is doing so by producing new amounts of collagen. This is different than simply injecting volume beneath a crease.

This also delivers longer-lasting results. Because your body is creating new collagen, this continues for months as the body slowly absorbs the PLLA. That’s why Sculptra® can basically double the duration of its results compared to typical dermal fillers.

What Are the Side Effects of Sculptra®?

The most common side effects with Sculptra are like those with any dermal filler:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Bruising
  • Slight Bleeding
  • Itching
  • Formation of small lumps

All these issues pass quickly. If you’re wondering about the poly-L-lactic acid that is the centerpiece of Sculptra®, PLLA is a biocompatible, biodegradable substance that the body accepts. It has been used for over 20 years in surgical applications, including dissolvable sutures.

Are Sculptra® Injections Painful?

Sculptra® is injected more deeply than other dermal fillers, down into the dermis layer. That’s because the dermis layer is where the body produces collagen and Sculptra® intends to boost your collagen production where injected.

Prior to your injections, we provide local anesthetic at the injection sites, depending on your preference. That makes these injections basically painless.

How to Prepare for a Sculptra® Session

Injecting Sculptra® can cause some bruising at the injection sites. This isn’t serious bruising, but if you want to mitigate it you can stop taking any aspirin and ibuprofen a couple days before your session. That’s all you need to do.

How Does Sculptra® Work?

The Sculptra® Aesthetic procedure is conducted through a series of injections with up to three sessions performed at about three-week intervals. During your session with Dr. Castor, Scupltra® Aesthetic will be injected into the deep dermis of your skin at the desired areas. There will be a temporary disappearance of the wrinkles immediately until the ingredients of the injection are absorbed into the deep dermis giving yourself a temporary “preview” of the long-term results that are to come. Once absorbed into the dermis, the ingredients of Sculptra®—which include poly-L-lactic acid—will begin to rebuild collagen and create a strong underlying skin structure. You will gradually see results over the next several months as your body continues to replenish collagen, creating more fullness in your face and smoother skin.

How Long Does It Take Fur Sculptra to Work

Sculptra® doesn’t add initial volume like typical dermal fillers. As noted above, Sculptra® has some initial plumping due to the gel that is used the deliver the poly-L-lactic acid, but this is a short-term event that passes as the gel spreads under the skin. The PLLA stimulates the production of new collagen, and that’s where Sculptra® actually does its work. This takes about two weeks to fully take effect.

How Many Sculptra Sessions Will I Need?

Sculptra® is different from other dermal fillers in that it is injected more deeply, into the dermis layer, and it is injected in a series of three sessions over the course of three to four months. This triggers the collagen building mechanisms in the dermis layer, and each subsequent session builds on the previous session.

Is There Any Recovery Involved With Sculptra?

Sculptra® is the same as other dermal fillers. You may have some slight redness, swelling, and bruising at the injection sites, but these side effects usually resolve in a few hours. Patients can return to work or their other normal activities immediately after these injections.

There is no after care.
