Glute-sculpting exercises and a carefully planned diet can only do so much to accentuate your backside. Your butt shape and size are largely determined by factors beyond your control, such as your age, genetics, and fat distribution. If you’re looking for a proven way to overcome those factors and achieve a more aesthetically pleasing shape, a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) may be the answer.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stan Castor has the experience and skill to deliver the results you want from buttock augmentation while maintaining a natural look. With a focus on personalized care and patient safety, Dr. Castor will help you determine whether a BBL is the right fit for you and design a treatment tailored to your unique anatomy.

Uses your own purified body fat rather than synthetic implants for a softer, more authentic feel.

Provides high-definition liposuction to the waist, back, or thighs, slimming donor areas while adding volume to the buttocks.

Performed using live ultrasound guidance and blunt-tip cannulas to ensure precise, safe fat placement.

Most patients return to sedentary work within 10–14 days, provided special seating (BBL pillows) is used.
A Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, is a specialized fat transfer procedure that uses your own tissue to enhance the shape and volume of the buttocks. Unlike buttock implants made from synthetic materials, a BBL is a two-step process that begins with liposuction to gently remove stubborn fat from areas where you may have an excess, such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs. The collected fat is then purified and precisely re-injected into the buttocks. This method allows Dr. Castor to act as an artist, simultaneously slimming the areas you want smaller while adding soft, natural-looking fullness and lift to the rear.
The primary goal of this procedure is to create a more balanced, hourglass silhouette that feels authentic to your body. Because the treatment uses your own fat cells, the results integrate naturally with your existing tissue, providing a softer look and feel than traditional implants.
One of the first buttock augmentations on record dates back to the early 1960s. The BBL fat transfer technique was developed by an innovative Brazilian plastic surgeon, credited with creating what we know and love today as the Brazilian Butt Lift.
The procedure quickly found a niche audience throughout the 60s and 70s, among those who could afford or even find surgeons who could perform a Brazilian Butt Lift. As BBLs and a variety of body-contouring techniques became more mainstream throughout the 80s and 90s, their costs were greatly reduced, boosting their popularity among the general public. And the rest is history!

Dr. Castor performs fat transfer buttock augmentation on an outpatient basis in our accredited in-office surgical suite. Depending on the specifics of your procedure, the surgery may last 2 to 5 hours.
Consultation & Preparation: Your consultation with Dr. Castor typically lasts 1 to 1.5 hours, far longer than the brief meetings common at many plastic surgery practices. This time allows Dr. Castor to understand your goals, explain your options, and develop a personalized treatment plan.
Physical Examination: Dr. Castor assesses your donor sites to determine the amount of available fat for harvesting. He examines your buttock anatomy, skin quality, and overall body proportions to plan your procedure.
Goal Discussion: Using before-and-after photos of previous patients, Dr. Castor helps you visualize realistic outcomes. You discuss the shape, projection, and volume you hope to achieve, and he explains what is possible given your anatomy and available donor fat.
Treatment Planning: Based on your examination and goals, Dr. Castor creates a surgical plan that identifies which areas will be treated with liposuction and how the fat will be distributed during injection.
Pre-Operative Preparation: Before your Brazilian Butt Lift procedure, you will receive specific instructions. These typically include stopping certain medications, arranging transportation home, and preparing your recovery space with appropriate seating options.
The educational focus of your consultation ensures you understand every aspect of your procedure. Dr. Castor answers all questions personally, never rushing through this important conversation. Patients frequently mention in reviews that they felt truly heard and well-informed after their consultation.

The Brazilian Butt Lift procedure involves three distinct steps:
Fat Harvesting: Dr. Castor uses liposuction to remove fat from donor areas where you have excess body fat. Common harvest sites include the abdomen, flanks, thighs, and lower back. This step contours your entire lower body while collecting the fat needed for transfer.
Fat Processing: The harvested fat undergoes purification to isolate healthy, viable cells. This step removes blood, oil, and damaged tissue, leaving only purified fat ready for injection. Gentle handling throughout this process helps maximize the number of transferred fat cells that survive.
Strategic Injection: Using blunt tip cannulas and ultrasound guidance, Dr. Castor injects the extracted fat in small amounts throughout the subcutaneous layer above the gluteal muscle. This fat-injection technique evenly distributes fat for smooth, natural contours while avoiding the muscle layer, where complications can occur.
Dr. Castor has an in-depth understanding of the body's functional systems and the underlying structure of the buttocks. He knows where to inject the fat, the amount that can be safely injected, and the correct injection depth. The fat is always placed on top of the gluteal muscles using a blunt tube. Live ultrasound is also used to guide the correct placement of the fat grafts for optimal safety and results.

The Brazilian Butt Lift is an ideal solution for a variety of aesthetic and structural concerns:

Adds projection and roundness to a backside that lacks volume due to genetics or weight loss.

Corrects unevenness between the left and right sides for a more balanced, harmonious appearance.

Rounds out the hips and buttocks to create a more feminine hourglass or heart shape.

Restores firmness to buttocks that have begun to sag or lose their youthful perkiness over time.

Simultaneously treats concerns like "muffin tops" or "saddlebags" by using those fat cells to enhance the gluteal region.
There are many benefits to BBL surgery. Firstly, it can help you get the rounder and fuller backside that may have eluded your fitness efforts. Secondly, it can improve your overall body proportions by adding fat where you want it and eliminating it where you don’t. And in some cases, a Brazilian butt lift will diminish the appearance of cellulite by adding volume underneath.
Patients love that a BBL can offer results that look and feel more natural than butt implants. Unfortunately, silicone butt implants often carry a higher risk of infection as well. Hence, there is no reason to accept these implant disadvantages when safe and effective butt lifts are available. Many people prefer this technique because it provides a more natural and customizable result. The procedure offers a wide range of benefits:
Many patients report significant satisfaction with their Brazilian Butt Lift results, noting improved confidence in clothing and swimwear. The combination of fat removal and strategic fat grafting produces changes that diet and exercise alone cannot achieve.

A Brazilian butt lift offers an immediate improvement in shape and volume. However, it will take some time for your final results to become apparent. That is because not all of the transferred fat will survive the healing process. Swelling can also obscure your surgical outcome until it dissipates. You should generally wait at least four months before judging your new look.
Though you may have heard uncomfortable stories about “failed BBLs,” where the body rejects the fat that is introduced. This is a risk factor only when you cut corners and choose a second-rate surgeon for your BBL. With a BBL performed by a highly accredited and trained professional, such as our very own board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Stan Castor, there is no chance your body will reject the fat. Because grafted fat is your own fat, with proper techniques, your body will, of course, naturally accept the fat. Likewise, the risk of infection after a successful BBL surgery is immensely rare for the same reasons as above.
One reason why patients choose a BBL over butt implants is that the final results of a BBL can last forever. Instead of using a silicone implant to enhance your rear, Brazilian butt lift surgery uses your excess fat cells. Many of those cells develop their own blood supply after being transferred to your backside and can remain in place indefinitely.
However, significant weight fluctuations can impact your cosmetic outcome. So, try to maintain your post-procedure weight to prevent any unwanted changes. Read here to learn more about how you can maximize your Brazilian Butt Lift Results.
During the procedure, you should feel no pain whatsoever. During the Brazilian Butt Lift surgery, you will be placed under some form of general anesthesia or sedative. The procedure will be painless for you, and the anesthesia will make the whole experience as stress-free as possible. However, during your recovery and healing time post-surgery, Dr. Castor advises managing the pain with prescribed medication, as any surgery of this sort will undoubtedly bring some discomfort. But don’t worry, the pain will diminish quickly with a little bit of time and the help of some over-the-counter pain medications.
Surgeons use different kinds of anesthesia during this procedure. It depends on factors such as the size of the treatment area and your surgeon’s preference. Dr. Stan Castor typically uses general anesthesia when performing a Brazilian butt lift. It puts you in a sleep-like state so that you won’t feel any pain. Know that you will need someone to drive you home after receiving general anesthesia.
You can resume light activity, such as walking, right after your Brazilian butt lift. In fact, surgeons encourage walking because it promotes blood flow and decreases swelling. Moving around and walking also helps reduce the risk of surgical complications. Avoid anything more strenuous for at least a week. One to four weeks after surgery, you can resume weight-bearing exercises while continuing with your daily walks.
Six weeks after surgery, you can ease back into your normal fitness routine. Know that your body may need time to regain its previous strength. If you have any specific questions about resuming exercise after your BBL, consult our plastic surgeon.
Feel free to work out as you usually would once your BBL has fully recovered. Working out and any other weight-loss activities won’t affect your BBL any more or less than they would the rest of your body. Simply treat your new butt as a natural part of your body. Do whatever you feel is best to keep it looking and feeling just the way you want.
BBL surgery leaves tiny scars in the areas where liposuction was performed. It does not leave scars on the buttocks because minimally invasive injections are used to transfer the fat. The marks will typically fade to fine lines one year after surgery. If your scars become raised, thick, red, or appear to widen, contact our office to discuss early-intervention treatments.
A good diet is key to maintaining the results of any cosmetic surgery, especially with Brazilian Butt Lifts. You’ll want to do your best to incorporate a nutrient-dense variety of foods into your diet after your BBL. Not only will this ensure your general overall health and support your recovery, but it will also help produce more healthy fats that will keep your BBL looking good into the foreseeable future.
