Breast Augmentation

Breast Enhancement Surgery in Tampa, FL

A woman’s breasts are often critically important to how she feels about her self-image and her femininity. Feeling comfortable with the appearance of your breasts can have a truly remarkable impact on your self-confidence and will have a positive impact on various aspects of your life. Women who are unhappy with breasts that are smaller than they would like, or who have experienced changes in their breasts due to aging or other factors, may benefit from breast implants.

Breast Augmentation is performed by Dr. Stan Castor in Tampa at Artisan Aesthetics Plastic Surgery and Laser Center. Dr. Castor is a board certified plastic surgeon has received Top Doctor awards for breast enhancement procedures. Dr. Castor can help to improve the appearance of your breasts and enhance your feminine contours.

Are Breast Implants Right for Me?

There are numerous reasons why a woman may consider breast augmentation. Because of its highly customizable nature, the procedure can be completely tailored to meet your own unique goals and needs.

Some reasons for considering breast implants include:

  • To enhance the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her breast size is too small
  • To restore breast volume lost due to weight loss or following pregnancy
  • To achieve better symmetry when breasts are moderately different in size and shape
  • To improve the shape of breasts that are sagging or have lost firmness, often used with a breast lift procedure
  • To provide the foundation of a breast contour when a breast has been removed or disfigured by surgery to treat breast cancer
  • To improve breast appearance or create the appearance of a breast that is missing or disfigured due to trauma, heredity, or congenital abnormalities

The specifics of your breast augmentation will be outlined during your consultation with Dr. Castor. There are several options available to you regarding implant type, placement, incision location, etc.

Women who are concerned about drooping or sagging of their breasts may be better suited for a breast lift. If both size and position are a concern, you may benefit from a combination breast augmentation-breast lift surgery.

By inserting an implant behind each breast, Dr. Castor is able to increase a woman’s bustline by one or more cup sizes. Breast augmentation can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence. The best candidates for breast augmentation are women who are looking for improvement of the size and shape of their breasts. If you’re physically healthy and realistic in your expectations, you may be a good candidate.

How is Breast Augmentation Surgery Performed?

Your breast augmentation procedure will be performed by Dr. Castor under general anesthesia. Depending on what was discussed during your consultation, an incision will be made either around the areola, beneath the breast and along the crease, or even in the pit of your arm. Once your incision is made, Dr. Castor will place your implant within a small pocket created either above or below the pectoral muscle to prevent the implants from moving or shifting.

Choosing Your Implants: Silicone or Saline?

There are two types of implants that you will be choosing between. Silicone gel implants are placed pre-filled, and are designed to feel more like natural breast tissue. They are also available in various shapes and profiles, from round to a more anatomical teardrop shape. Newer silicone gel implants have been nicknamed gummy bear implants due to their cohesive structure that maintains its shape without leaking in case of rupture. Saline implants are put into place empty and then filled with their saline solution to achieve the proper size. Women who are looking for a rounder or perkier appearance may prefer saline implants to silicone.

Once Dr. Castor has placed both implants, your incisions are closed and any necessary surgical dressings are placed.

Q&A with Dr. Castor

Q: Why do patients choose you?

  • A: Research shows that patients look for the following in their plastic surgeons: travel distance, number of years in practice, board certification status, method of referral, office décor, and procedure cost.
  • We are located in North Tampa, a centrally located office for patients from 4 adjacent counties. Well within traveling distance, less than 45 minutes from roughly 3 million people.
  • I have been in practice of cosmetic plastic surgery for 17 years and am board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery for 16 years.
  • Our #1 referral source is from patients. I have a high patient satisfaction rate that refers other patients to us. We even have patients travel from out-of-state and from out-of-the-country to have surgeries performed by myself.
  • Beautiful, warm office decor with a state of the art in office surgical suite.
  • Reasonable procedure cost by offering the procedure in our office as opposed to going to an outpatient surgery center or hospital based surgical center where operating room and anesthesia fees are much higher.

Q: Roughly how many breast augmentations do you perform each year?

A: I do around 150 breast implant procedures per year. This puts me in the top three breast implant surgeons in the Tampa Bay area as far as volume of procedures.

Q: What makes you different than your competitors?

A: The doctor and the entire office staff, from front office receptionists to surgical coordinators and the surgical staff, are all centered and focused on customer service. The patient will be examined by myself and will have a 30-45 min consultation with me. I will answer all of the patient’s questions and emails personally. I want the patient to feel comfortable with me and want to make sure the patient is well educated on the procedure they are interested in having done. The difference with many of my competitors is that they may have a nurse or surgical coordinator see the patient first and interview the patients as far as their goals. The competition surgeons will then come in and see the patient for five minutes and then turn over the rest of the consultation to the coordinator once the surgical plan is outlined. I commonly have patients tell me that they saw three other surgeons before me and that I have spent more time with them answering their questions than all the other surgeons combined. I believe in one on one doctor-patient interaction and relationship only.

As opposed to my competitors, the patients are encouraged to try on sample implants in a bra and stand in front of a mirror with their shirt on to look at their figure. I and the surgical coordinator go over all types of implants and the pros and cons of each. Many patients will spend 20 minutes trying on implants with the surgical coordinator and feel confident they are making the right size choice rather than just looking at before and after photos in a book.

Q: What types of implants to you offer?

A: I offer all types of implants available on the market today including saline, silicone, gummy bear, round and shaped implants. I use Allergan’s Natrelle brand of implants, a U.S. company with 65% market share in the United States.

Q: What types of things matter to your breast augmentation patients?

A: Most importantly, their results and satisfaction with their surgeries. Our high referral source from our patients speaks to our success at Artisan Aesthetics. My patients like the fact that they get to know the office staff, receptionist, surgical coordinator and myself. They are treated like family, not a number like in a factory. My staff is down to earth and many of them have undergone the same procedures as the patients. They are therefore empathetic and sympathetic. My patients like the fact that they are having surgery in the office surgical suite where they already know the staff. They don’t have to go to another surgical center where they don’t know the staff, maybe they’re nervous and may not be comfortable with nurses they don’t know. My patients like it that they see only me in all of their post-operative check ups. They are not passed off to a nurse or physician’s assistant. They have all of their questions answered and feel comfortable knowing that the doctor is seeing them and available to them.

My patients like that we are not rushing them to make a decision, an important decision. There is no high pressure sales tactics, we want them to be comfortable first that they are educated and can make an intelligent decision. There is “no closing the deal” in my office.

Q: What is the normal timeline for recovery for different breast procedures?

A: For breast augmentation, most patients take 3-4 days off work. They may return to the gym to do cardio type of exercises in 10 days. They may return to full activity, weight lifting, etc. in 4 weeks.

Q: What is important to your patients recovery?

A: The most important thing to recovery is following their post-operative instructions as far as what they can and can not do, massaging their breast as instructed, wearing proper bras and exercising when appropriate healing time has passed.

Q: What are some timelines on activities patients can engage in? Such as, how long will it be before they can work out, resume a normal sex life and go back to work?

A: 10 days for cardio. Four weeks for weights, running, heavy workouts, and one week for normal sex. 3-4 days to go back to work.
