As a woman, your breasts shouldn’t cause you pain, make you feel self-conscious, dictate what you wear, or make it difficult to perform regular physical activities. However, disproportionately large, heavy breasts can make those struggles a reality. If your breasts are causing you physical or emotional distress, it may be time to consider a breast reduction.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stan Castor performs breast reduction surgery at Artisan Aesthetics Plastic Surgery & Laser Center. This breast procedure can give you a beautiful and more proportionate bust while alleviating the painful symptoms you’re experiencing.

What is Breast Reduction Surgery?
Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammaplasty, is a procedure performed to reduce a patient’s breast size. It usually involves removing excess breast fat, tissue, and skin to achieve a more suitable breast profile.
A breast reduction can offer many physical and emotional benefits, including:
- Reducing chronic back, shoulder, and neck pain caused by breast weight
- Eliminating bra strap grooves in your shoulders
- Improving your posture
- Improving your comfort while exercising
- Allowing you to lay on your stomach more comfortably
- Potentially lessening the unwanted attention you receive
- Improving your self-image
- Giving you more bra and clothing options
Once you gain the ability to exercise comfortably, you may find it easier to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Since a breast reduction often reduces pain, corrects poor posture, and increases your mobility, your quality of life can dramatically improve after the procedure.
Ideal Candidates for Breast Reduction
The medical term for excessively large breasts is macromastia. Breast reduction surgery is often a beneficial procedure for women with this condition. If you don’t suffer from the physical symptoms of macromastia but wish to reduce the size of your breasts solely for aesthetic reasons, you may also be a great candidate.
Meeting with Dr. Castor in person is the best way to determine if a breast reduction is right for you. This procedure may be ideal if:
- You are physically healthy
- You feel like your breasts are too large
- Your breasts limit your physical activity
- Your breasts cause you pain
- You experience skin irritation beneath your breast crease
- You don’t smoke or are willing to quit temporarily

Breast Reduction Procedure and Recovery
Dr. Castor will perform your breast reduction at our state-of-the-art accredited surgical suite. This space offers you convenience, safety, and comfort.
Like most surgical procedures, breast reduction is carried out while you are under anesthesia. Dr. Castor will make the incision that is appropriate for your situation, which may include around the areola, around the areola and vertically down, or in an anchor shape. Then he will reduce the size of your breasts — while potentially reducing the size of your areolas and repositioning your nipples — before closing the incisions.
Dr. Castor will explain what you can expect from breast reduction recovery during your consultation. You will leave with dressings or bandages around your chest. You will also need to wear a support bra to reduce swelling and help support your breasts as they heal.
Typically, patients are back to work in one to two weeks. Dr. Castor will give you specific aftercare instructions to follow during your recovery and let you know when you can resume various activities.
