Botox® or a Dermal Filler?
While both Botox and dermal fillers are treatments administered via injection, they are actually quite different. Botox utilizes a purified botulinum toxin to reduce and prevent the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles—those that are the result of your facial expressions. Dermal fillers are designed to actually fill in the area beneath the skin, improving wrinkles, folds, and lost volume.

Take a look in the mirror. If you’re beginning to notice fine lines or wrinkles forming as a result of your repeated facial expressions, Botox may be right for you. Whether you’re squinting, smiling, frowning, or anything in between, your facial muscles are pulling and folding your skin over and over again, eventually leaving behind what are called dynamic lines and wrinkles—crow’s feet, frown lines and nasolabial folds to name a few.
What Botox does is it relaxes these underlying muscles, softening your expressions and improving the appearance of existing signs of aging while also preventing new ones from forming. The effects come from the purified botulinum toxin, which is carefully injected into the underlying facial muscles that are causing the lines and wrinkles. Over time, Botox helps to control these wrinkles, resulting in a more youthful appearance.
Your results will typically last anywhere from 3-6 months, but can be maintained with further treatment. Dr. Castor can also help treat various medical conditions using Botox, including excessive sweating, overactive bladder, chronic migraine, and muscle spasms.
Juvéderm & Restylane
Hyaluronic Acid Based Fillers
If you’re noticing deeper facial lines or wrinkles or a loss of volume, you may be better suited for a dermal filler like Juvéderm or Restylane. These two fillers are created using hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in your skin, which helps give you that fuller, more youthful look. As your skin loses hyaluronic acid as you get older, your face can begin to lose volume and form wrinkles.
When injected into the skin, the hyaluronic acid gel in Juvéderm and Restylane is used to fill in the area beneath the skin, helping to restore volume and smooth the surface. These fillers are effective for treating common signs of aging such as smile lines, marionette lines, nasolabial folds, skin laxity, and can also be used for non-surgical lip enhancement.
Results from Juvéderm or Restylane can last for up to a full year and can be maintained with regular treatments.
Calcium Hydroxylapatite Filler
If your face is experiencing larger areas of volume loss, lax contours, or moderate to severe wrinkles, Radiesse may be an effective choice of filler. Radiesse is a volumizing filler that utilizes calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres to enhance the natural contours of your face. Just one treatment can take several years off your appearance so you can look on the outside how you feel on the inside.
Radiesse can be used for common signs of aging such as smile lines or marionette lines, but can also be used for the treatment of larger areas such as a pre-jowl fold or deep chin wrinkles.
Radiesse is designed to provide you with natural, long-lasting results for up to a year. You may choose to undergo regular treatments to maintain ongoing results.
