Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) in Tampa, FL

The eyes often show signs of aging before other parts of the face. Since the skin is thin and there is little underlying tissue to offer support, the eye area is particularly vulnerable to puffiness, wrinkles, and sagging. If you want to correct these cosmetic concerns, eyelid surgery may be the solution.

Rejuvenate appearance with eyelid surgery

Also known as blepharoplasty, eyelid surgery has a reputation for offering a dramatic cosmetic improvement with minimal downtime. This type of facial plastic surgery can take years off your appearance, helping you look refreshed and vibrant.

Benefits Of Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is a popular procedure at our practice and across the country. That is because it is the most effective and long-lasting way to improve the appearance of the eyelids. Here are some of the long-term benefits that you may be able to expect from your blepharoplasty:

  • Reduction or elimination of eye puffiness
  • Tightening of loose, drooping, or sagging skin that may obstruct your vision
  • Correction of under-eye bags
  • Smoothing of fine lines, wrinkles, and folds
  • A more defined eyelid contour

If you wear makeup, you know that it can accentuate aesthetic concerns around the eye area. Eye shadow and eyeliner can turn out patchy on crepey lids, and mascara can be difficult to apply when the surrounding skin is puffy. After eyelid surgery, you’ll likely find that your makeup applies more smoothly and looks better than it did before.

Candidates For Eyelid Surgery

You may be an ideal candidate for eyelid surgery if you:

  • Are generally healthy
  • Are free from serious eye conditions
  • Don’t smoke or are willing to quit temporarily
  • Have realistic goals for the procedure

If you want to tighten and lift the skin around your eyes for a more youthful look, eyelid surgery may be right for you. It may also be appropriate if you are experiencing severe upper eyelid sagging that impairs your field of view.

Dr. Castor will listen to your concerns and assess your facial anatomy to determine your candidacy. In some cases, insufficient forehead elasticity is the underlying cause of a drooping upper lid. To correct this concern and achieve the desired results, Dr. Castor may recommend incorporating a brow lift. You can find out what is appropriate for your situation by arranging a consultation.

Eyelid Surgery Steps

Your blepharoplasty will take place in our onsite state-accredited office surgical suite. This convenience allows you to avoid a hospital visit and the associated costs.

The first step in eyelid surgery is administering anesthesia for your comfort. Dr. Castor will then make inconspicuous incisions on the upper lid, lower lid, or both. From there, he can remove or relocate fat, tighten the underlying muscle, and remove excess skin as needed. To complete the surgery, Dr. Castor will close the incisions with sutures or a medical skin adhesive.

Recovering from eyelid surgery is a relatively short and painless process. You will likely experience mild bruising and swelling, which should fade within a week or two. We will give you detailed aftercare instructions to follow during this time, including which activities you should avoid.
