Nose Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

As your central-most feature, your nose influences the balance and harmony of your entire face. Thankfully, any aesthetic and functional concerns you have can be addressed through rhinoplasty. This popular facial plastic surgery procedure reshapes your nose so you can look and feel your best.

If you’re dissatisfied with the way your nose looks, schedule a complimentary consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Stan Castor at (813) 971-2000. He will listen to your goals and help determine if rhinoplasty is right for you. Artisan Aesthetics Plastic Surgery and Laser center serves men and women from Tampa Bay and the surrounding areas of Florida.

What Rhinoplasty Can Do

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose surgery or a “nose job,” improves the proportions of your nose to provide you with your ideal look. The procedure typically involves making thoughtful adjustments to nasal shape, symmetry, and size.

Dr. Castor commonly performs rhinoplasty to address:

woman after rhinoplasty
  • Disproportionate nose size or width
  • Nostril position, shape, and size
  • Humps, bumps, or depressions on the nose bridge
  • A nasal tip that is large, upturned, or droopy
  • Asymmetry

Candidates For Nose Surgery

Many people are excellent candidates for rhinoplasty, including those who:

  • Have a fully developed nose
  • Are physically healthy
  • Don’t smoke or are willing to quit temporarily
  • Have realistic goals and expectations for the procedure

Dr. Castor will meticulously evaluate your candidacy when you visit our practice for a consultation. He will examine the characteristics of your nose and listen carefully to what you are hoping to achieve through surgery.

Keep in mind that there are limitations to what rhinoplasty can accomplish. For example, it may not be able to make your nose perfectly symmetrical. It also cannot give you the exact nose of your favorite celebrity or model. However, what it can do is create a balanced, proportional nose that highlights your unique beauty.

How Do I Prepare For A Rhinoplasty?

Deciding to undergo rhinoplasty can significantly benefit your appearance and health. Before performing the procedure at Artisan Aesthetics Plastic Surgery, Dr. Castor will provide you with instructions to follow. In general, you should:

  • Have any prescribed pain medications filled at your pharmacy
  • Arrange for a driver to and from the surgery
  • Set up a relaxing environment to recover in
  • Have plenty of healthy food and drinks to support your recovery
  • Purchase any other medical supplies, such as bandages or ointments

Ideally, a family member or close friend should be available to help you during your recovery, especially during the first few days.

How Long Will The Nose Surgery Procedure Take?

The length of time of your surgical procedure varies depending on your treatment plan. Most rhinoplasties can be completed in under two hours, while others may take a little longer. During your consultation, Dr. Castor can provide you with an estimate of how long your rhinoplasty will last.

Will The Results Of My Rhinoplasty Look Natural?

Results from a rhinoplasty are intended to look very natural and allow for more synchronized facial balance. Close friends and family members who are used to your appearance will notice changes once your nose has healed, but the effect is natural.

New people you meet will not be able to tell you have had a rhinoplasty unless you tell them. Scars from a rhinoplasty are well hidden and fade within a few months, so only someone knowledgeable about the procedure would know what to look for.

Are Rhinoplasty Results Permanent?

Results from a rhinoplasty are permanent and intended to last your entire life. A rhinoplasty is unlike other procedures that are subjected to impacts from the natural aging process.

If you are happy with your results, you’ll never need a maintenance treatment. If you decide you want to change your nose in the future, another rhinoplasty can be performed.

Will I Have Any Scars After My Rhinoplasty?

You will have scars following a rhinoplasty, but they will be difficult to detect. The type of rhinoplasty that you have determines the location of your incisions.

A closed rhinoplasty is performed with incisions made inside the nostrils. Unless someone looks up your nose, they will be unable to see the incisions made.

An open rhinoplasty requires an incision on the skin between the nostrils. However, once the scar fully heals, it is virtually undetectable.

Will Nose Surgery Impact My Ability To Breathe?

Following a rhinoplasty, you may find that you can breathe much better than before your procedure. Patients often experience a clearer opening in their nasal passages, which can improve conditions such as sleep apnea.

Closed rhinoplasties often result in the most significant improvement in breathing since they can repair deviated septums and other issues that impact breathing ability.

Your Rhinoplasty Procedure

Dr. Castor completes nose surgery under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. As a patient at Artisan Aesthetics, your rhinoplasty will be performed at our state-accredited office surgical suite. The benefits of having your surgery onsite at our modern facility include having a more comfortable, convenient, and affordable experience compared to most rhinoplasties done elsewhere.

To deliver a flattering and personalized outcome, Dr. Castor will develop a tailored surgical plan just for you. He will base this plan on factors such as your desired result, your face shape, and any ethnic traits you’d like to keep. Dr. Castor understands that the same nose does not fit everyone.

Rhinoplasty is performed as a closed procedure, involving incisions inside the nose, or as an open procedure, with an incision across the tissue between the nostrils. During each approach, Dr. Castor reshapes and refines the nose before closing the incisions. The exact surgical steps and techniques used during your rhinoplasty may vary depending on your anatomy and what you are trying to accomplish.

Recovering After Rhinoplasty

During your nose surgery recovery, you will have a splint or bandages placed to facilitate proper healing and provide protection. It’s normal to experience some swelling and bruising, which should fully subside within a few weeks. You can easily manage any discomfort by taking pain medications approved by Dr. Castor.

Dr. Castor will give you specific aftercare instructions, including how to care for the surgical site, activity restrictions, and an estimate of when you should be able to return to work. He is also available to answer any questions that may come up during the healing process. Expect to attend a follow-up appointment to check in on your progress and results.
