Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery in Tampa
As you get older, your eyes can give away your age immediately. Puffy bags below the eyes and sagging skin or a drooping upper eyelid can leave you looking constantly exhausted or unhappy. If you want to restore a younger, more rejuvenated look for your eyes, you may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery.
Eyelid Surgery is performed by Dr. Stan Castor at Artisan Aesthetics Plastic Surgery and Laser Center. Tampa board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Castor is highly skilled and experienced with eyelid procedures, and can help you improve the appearance of your eyes with a more lively and youthful look.
Is Eyelid Surgery Right for Me?
Eyelid surgery (technically called blepharoplasty) is a procedure designed to remove fat—usually along with excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid surgery can correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below your eyes—features that make you look older and more tired than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision.
Eyelid surgery won’t remove crow’s feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows. While it can add an upper eyelid crease for patients of Asian descent, it will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. Dr. Stan Castor performs blepharoplasty alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift or brow lift.
Dr. Castor feels that the best candidates for eyelid surgery are men and women who are physically healthy, psychologically stable, and realistic in their expectations. Most eyelid surgery patients are 35 or older, but if droopy, baggy eyelids run in your family, you may decide to have eyelid surgery at a younger age.
How is Eyelid Surgery Performed?
During your consultation, you and Dr. Castor will determine whether you will require upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery, or a combination of both. Upper eyelid surgery is designed to address excess skin and sagging of the upper eyelid, whereas lower eyelid surgery aims at improving the appearance of puffiness beneath the eyes.
To perform your eyelid surgery, Dr. Castor will make a small incision in the upper or lower eyelid, using the natural creases to minimize visibility. From there, he will remove excess fat and tighten or reshape the underlying muscle and tissues. Before closing your incisions, Dr. Castor will remove excess skin to get rid of any drooping or sagging of the eyelids.
