Restoring Comfort and Confidence

What is Breast Implant Revision?

Breast implant revision is a surgical procedure performed to update, replace, or remove breast implants from a previous augmentation or reconstruction. Whether you are seeking a change due to a medical complication or simply wish to alter your breast size or shape, revision surgery provides the opportunity to reset your results.

Dr. Castor offers several options for revision, including swapping older implants for highly cohesive "gummy bear" silicone implants, changing the pocket placement (submuscular vs. subglandular), or performing a breast lift (mastopexy) to correct sagging that has occurred since your initial surgery.

Your Surgical Journey

What Is the Breast Implant Revision Procedure Like?

On the day of your surgery, you will arrive at our private Tampa suite, where Dr. Castor and his expert team will prepare you for the procedure. Revision surgery is performed under general anesthesia to ensure your total comfort.

Dr. Castor usually utilizes your original incision sites to minimize new scarring. During the procedure, he will remove the existing implants and, if necessary, remove the scar tissue capsule (capsulectomy). If you are updating your look, he will then create a new, precise pocket for the replacement implants. If a lift is being performed simultaneously, he will remove excess skin and reposition the nipple-areolar complex to a more youthful height before closing the incisions with meticulous, layered sutures.

The Rewards of a Refresh

What Are the Benefits of Breast Implant Revision?

The primary benefit of a revision is the restoration of physical comfort and aesthetic peace of mind. If you have lived with hardened or shifted implants, the relief of having soft, symmetrical breasts is life-changing.

Revision surgery allows you to benefit from modern implant technology. Today’s cohesive silicone gels offer a more natural feel and a higher safety profile than older models. Additionally, if you have experienced rippling with saline, switching to silicone during a revision can provide a much smoother, more natural contour.

A Personalized Procedure

Am I a Candidate for Breast Implant Revision?

You may be an ideal candidate if you are in good health and have existing implants that are causing physical discomfort, have ruptured, or no longer align with your aesthetic goals. A revision procedure is also appropriate for those who have noticed significant changes in their breast shape over time. Dr. Castor will conduct a thorough physical exam and review your surgical history during your consultation to ensure revision is the safest path forward.

Nurturing Your New Results

Breast Implant Revision Recovery

Recovery from a revision is often similar to healing from your initial augmentation, though many patients find it slightly easier. You will be placed in a specialized surgical bra to support your new implants and minimize swelling. Dr. Castor encourages light walking within 24 hours to promote circulation, but you must avoid heavy lifting or strenuous upper-body movements for at least 4 weeks.

Because Dr. Castor personally handles all aftercare, he will meet with you several times after surgery to monitor your healing and ensure your incisions are maturing beautifully.

Visible, Lasting Aesthetic Harmony

Breast Implant Revision Results

You will notice a significant improvement in the shape and feel of your breasts immediately following surgery, though final results emerge over 3 to 6 months as swelling subsides and the implants "drop and fluff" into their permanent position.

If you choose to change your breast size or add a lift, you'll get a more youthful, proportionate silhouette that better matches your current frame. These results are designed to be long-lasting, providing you with renewed confidence and comfort in your clothing and your skin.

Breast Implant Revision Frequently Asked Questions

While not "lifetime" devices, modern implants are designed to last 10–20 years. However, if you are experiencing no issues and your imaging is clear, there is no mandatory timeframe for replacement. Revision is only necessary when a complication occurs or your goals change.

Yes. This is one of the most common requests. Silicone implants often provide a more natural feel and less visible rippling, making them an excellent choice for a revision refresh.

In most cases, Dr. Castor can utilize your existing scars to access the implants, meaning you likely won't have any additional incision lines unless a Breast Lift is also required.

While no surgeon can guarantee it won't return, Dr. Castor uses advanced techniques, including complete capsulectomies and sometimes "site changes," to significantly reduce the risk of recurrence.

Silicone ruptures are often "silent," meaning they show no outward symptoms. Dr. Castor recommends regular imaging (ultrasound or MRI) as suggested by the FDA to monitor the integrity of your implants.
